Corporations often use firewalls to protect themselves against external attacks and require that their employees use proxies when accessing the Internet. Since CHOICE connects you to the Internet directly you need to manage your proxy settings, before using the network, in the following way:
Internet Explorer
Your Internet Explorer 5.x should not use a hardcoded proxy
to access the Internet. Instead it should be set to either automatically detect
proxies or not detect proxies at all. To check if this is the case, in IE5.x
go to Tools, then Internet Options, then Connections,
then LAN settings. Uncheck both "Use automatic configuration script"
and "Use a proxy server". You will get faster access if you uncheck
"Automatically detect settings" also.
WinSock Proxy
Your winSock proxy client should not be enabled. To check if
this is the case, open My Computer, then Control Panel,
then WSP Client. Ensure "Enable WinSock proxy" is unchecked.
In case WSP is enabled, you should disable it and click OK. A pop-up
will ask you to restart windows, but you don't have to. Once finished
with CHOICE, you should consider re-enabling the WSP Client if you use
it for running ftp and telnet from within your corporate
(home) network.
